Following Ottoman rule, Qatar became a British protectorate in the early 20th century until gaining independence in 1971. Qatar has been ruled by the House of Thani since the early 19th century. Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani was the founder of the State of Qatar. Qatar is a hereditary monarchy and its head of state is Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Whether it should be regarded as a constitutional[12][13] or an absolute monarchy[14][15][16][17] is a matter of opinion. In 2003, the constitution was overwhelmingly approved in a referendum, with almost 98% in favour.[18][19] In early 2017, Qatar's total population was 2.6 million: 313,000 Qatari citizens and 2.3 million expatriates.[20] Qatar is a high income economy, backed by the world's third largest natural gas reserves and oil reserves.[21] The country has the highest per capita income in the world. Said the country's Islamic Culture Center chief of public relations who initiated a previous initiative to teach foreigners about the dress code, "The amount of immodest clothing is growing in public places, especially shopping malls. Such foreigner behavior conflicts with our traditions." He also noted that it sets a poor example for the younger generations. His feelings are shared by other officials in the country. The latest campaign's leader expressed her concern that if the youth continue to be exposed to immodesty and the acceptance of modernism, they may begin rebelling against tradition.

Literally translated to "the standing market," this shopping destination is renowned for selling traditional garments, spices, handicrafts, and souvenirs. It is also home to dozens of restaurants serving cuisines from all over the world, as well as Shisha lounges. Although this market dates back at least a hundred years, it has been recently restored back to its original glory. It is now considered one of the top tourist destinations within Doha. Thousands of people from across the region frequent this market to purchase traditional goods. Lately Souq Wakif became a hotspot for art galleries and workshops, hosting several art galleries and events. It also hosts local concerts during the holiday seasons. I made this video during the festival of Eid Al Adha. I will upload more clips later, visit my Face book page "Rahman Kayalmadathil photography" to see more photos regarding Souq waqif,.

'Like' my Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/Superlennyo This winterbreak I went to visit Qatar and to be more specific the city Doha, which is the capital city of Qatar. Qatar is a very wealthy country because of it's large gas and oil supply. This wealth brings a lot of lovely supercars and other cars to the country as you can see in the video. A local in Qatar told me that after 6 months often a new car is bought because they are bored of their old one. If you want to have a short impression what Qatar looks like you should watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vyj7Z60bICw I hope you like it! - Superlennyo
